Restoring and safeguarding
the Caribbean’s vital coastal ecosystems and communities

We Are Cresta Coastal Network

Our work strengthens coastal habitats in ways that tangibly benefit both local economies and ecosystems. Grounded in community-driven needs and priorities, and led by local initiatives, our collaborative, participatory approach is built on strong, enduring relationships.

Cresta is the peak of a reef or a mountain, the highest point and the area that we most commonly see and engage with. Islands more commonly than not are made from volcanic activity in underwater mountains called seamounts, or from accumulation of limestone and marine sediment as part of the accretion of coral reefs. Each small island has unique ecosystems, cultural traditions, and challenges faced, as well as many connective and bridged experiences that allow for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

We take a seascape approach, looking at the systems as an interconnected whole. Through this lens we are able to tackle multiple issues at once, in a comprehensive approach to support sustainable ocean health, and thus robust and resilient human communities along the tropics and beyond. Mangroves, seagrass and coral reef ecosystems and their diverse inhabitants are where our research is focused.

Big scary problems without solutions lead to apathy, not action… Small steps taken by many people in their backyards add up.
